This editorial was found on the July 13, 2008 edition of the Courier Post. I thought that you would find this interesting.

Yes, I agree and a perfect example of this is St. Peter Celestine in Cherry Hill. My mother lives in Maple Shade but enjoys attending Mass on Saturday nights at St. Peter Celestine. In the Courier Post, Bishop Galiente listed this church as one of his "favorite" churches because it is big and well attended. However, instead of leaving this church alone, he is closing Queen of Heaven Church in Cherry Hill and forcing them to merge with St. Peter Celestine. Neither parish is happy about this. The Queen of Heaven parishoners don't want to lose their church and St. Peter Celestine does not have the room for them.
My mother also made another point. Since she lives in Maple Shade, her real parish is Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Maple Shade. The pastor there wrote the parishoners to ask for more money because the church needs significant repairs. She is not sure if she should pledge more money because she doesn't know if her Bishop will close her church. Her bishop is Bishop Smith of the Diocese of Trenton. He is closing churches in a much smaller scale than Bishop Galiente. However, it has been reported that he is going to eventually close churches in Southern Burlington County, which could include OLPH in Maple Shade.
These proposed mergers are really creating a bad ripple effect.
